We are about to embark on another new school year. I would like to take this opportunity to go over classroom routines, expectations, and how you can help your student be successful.
Time Commitment & Homework:
Time Commitment & Homework:
- Students will be given daily homework.
- If a student is absent, it is his or her responsibility to obtain the missing work from the assignment binder. He or she must attach a signed Late Homework Ticket for which he or she missed.
- If a student misses one day, he or she is entitled to one extra day to complete and turn in the assignment. Any assignments missed due to absence are excused in my grade book with the option of making them up. It is recommended that students still complete the assignment as preparation for the upcoming test/quiz that will contain the information.
- The math homework should take 30-40 minutes per night. If homework is taking more than one hour each night please notify me so that I can make accommodations.
- If a student is experiencing extreme difficulty and frustration with a particular assignment stop them and send them back to school with questions to ask me. Once the questions have been answered the student can complete the assignment and turn it in late.
- I require the students to keep notes in their math journals. Please refer to these notes and the textbook when assisting students with their homework.
Planners:
- My class starts every day with a list of what we do in class and what the homework expectations are. Students copy this down in their planners. Parents, please look at this regularly. This is the best way for me to communicate with students and parents what is happening in the math classroom.
Grading:
- I give quizzes and tests regularly.
- Students who are not satisfied with their score, or show un-satisfactory proficiency will be given the opportunity to retake a different version of the quiz/test to improve their grade.
- Students, who are not happy with homework, quiz, or test score are encouraged to do revisions. Revisions should include all steps to solving the problem, as well as a description of how to solve the problem step by step. All revisions should be stapled to the original piece of work and should be submitted before the next grading period.
